This ginger plant flower was taken at Singapore Botanic Gardens. This is a good choice of using spot metering as the flower was lighted by the sun while the surrounding were in shadows.
With spot metering, the camera will only measure a very small area of the scene (between 1-5% of the viewfinder area). This will typically be the very centre of the scene. Since that area is bright, the camera will gives a fast shutter speed causing the shadow areas to be dark.

In the age of digital photography where special effects can be achieved through Photoshop, filters are not so much in use. However the following filters are good to have when doing landscape photography.
