Take your Time 2 – Rear Curtain Sync

1 September 2007 344 views No Comment

The above photo was taken at Khao San Road in Bangkok. It is the backpackers area and it was 1 Jan 07, one night  after the Bangkok bombing on 31 Dec last year but this guy was performing soccer ball juggling there.

Ifyou dun use flash you will end up with a blur photo but if you use flash you probably will freeze the motion. Why not use rear curtain sync flash?

What is rear curtain sync mode?

“ This is called rear (or second) curtain sync, and it is used to freeze motion at the end of the exposure. When making long exposures while firing a flash, rear curtain sync creates the effect of motion blur trailing the main subject. ”

By using rear curtain sync mode, the camera captured the motion blur of the ball till the flash fired and frozen the ball in the frame.

Try it the next time when you have a low light and motion and of course only if flash is allowed! Just an example of using rear curtain sync mode, you probably can create much more creative photos than I do. :)
